Tim Hudak and Ontario PC Caucus Warn Hamilton and Niagara Families About the HST Tax Grab

Friday, June 18th, 2010

News:

Today, Tim Hudak and the Ontario PC Caucus demonstrated the countless items the HST will apply to when the tax grab goes into effect on July 1st.

On Canada Day, the McGuinty Liberals HST tax grab will force Ontario families to start paying more for gas, electricity, home heating fuel and dozens of other everyday goods and services that they rely on the most. The Ontario PC Caucus have launched a new poll at www.daltonsalestax.com through which Ontario families can make their voices heard on this tax. The poll is also available on the Tim Hudak iPhone application.

The Ontario PC Caucus was in Grimsby for a caucus planning and strategy meeting. Next week marks Hudak’s one year anniversary of becoming Ontario PC Leader. He is the first leader of a major Ontario party to represent the Niagara region.

Quotes:

“Dalton McGuinty broke his promise not to raise taxes and today, every Ontario family is forced to pay more and get less. We will replace Dalton McGuinty’s addiction to tax and spend with a government that respects how much Ontario families already pay.”

“Ontario family budgets are already under siege. That’s why I will continue to fight the HST and every other fee hike Dalton McGuinty has levied against the family budget.”

Tim Hudak Joins Kitchener-Waterloo Families to Rally Against the HST

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

News:

Today Tim Hudak and members of the Ontario PC Caucus today joined over 200 Ontario PC Party members to protest Dalton McGuinty’s latest tax hike – the $3 billion HST tax grab.

Dalton McGuinty’s HST will officially force Ontario families and seniors to pay more for gas, electricity, home heating fuel and dozens of other everyday goods and services that you rely on most. Last month in a cleansing moment of honesty, McGuinty himself was finally forced to admit that the tax burden on families will go up.

Earlier this week the Ontario PC Caucus revealed that prisoners in Ontario jails will receive HST bribe cheques from Dalton McGuinty of up to $1,000 each.

Quotes:

“Only a Premier as out of touch as Dalton McGuinty would designate July 1st — Canada Day — as the day the HST kicks in – and every Ontario family starts paying more.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“Ontario family budgets are already stretched to the breaking point. That is why an Ontario PC Government will replace Dalton McGuinty’s tax-and-spend government, with one that respects how much you already pay.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

Quick Facts:

  • Tim Hudak and the Ontario PC caucus have used every tool at their disposal to fight the HST. Hudak has toured extensively throughout Ontario to expose the HST while, at Queens Park Ontario PC MPPs staged a two-day sit-in in the Legislature introduced 200,000 amendments to the HST in order to delay passage of the bill.

Some of the items set to increase in price after the HST kicks in include:

  • Hydro
  • Home heating fuel
  • Natural gas
  • Gasoline
  • Vitamins
  • Internet service
  • Financial advisory services
  • Mutual fund fees

Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak Discusses Impact of HST with the Kitchener-Waterloo Real Estate Board

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

News:

Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak today participated in a roundtable discussion with members of the Kitchener Waterloo Real Estate Board about the issues facing homebuyers and home-sellers in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.

Hudak asked roundtable participants to share their thoughts on the upcoming implementation of Dalton McGuinty’s $3 billion HST tax grab. According to the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA), the HST will add $1,500 to the cost of a real estate transaction, hurting the resale-home market and prolonging the housing industry’s recovery from the recession.

OREA also estimates that the HST will add $480 a year in new family taxes for items such as electricity and home-heating costs, lawn care, landscaping and snow removal.

Quotes:

“Dalton McGuinty’s $3 billion HST tax grab is a tax on the dream of home ownership. Today family budgets are already stretched to the limit and the HST will make it more expensive than ever for Ontario families to buy their dream home.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“Only someone as out-of-touch as Dalton McGuinty would force young families pursuing the dream of homeownership to pay more to cover for his runaway spending, scandals and debt.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

Quick Facts:

  • The OREA estimates that the HST will add $1,500 to the cost of a real-estate transaction, hurting the resale-home market and prolonging the housing industry’s recovery from the current economic downturn and an additional $480 per year in expenses tied to home ownership.
  • A poll by the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO) found that the HST would result in an estimated 6% increase in the operational budget of the average residential condo.
  • Altus Group Economic Consulting estimates that the renovation sector will be forced to pay $765 million in new tax to the McGuinty Government due to the HST.

Dalton McGuinty’s HST Tax Grab Will Force Guelph Families to Pay More to Care for Pets

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

News:

Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak visited the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph today to highlight how Dalton McGuinty’s HST tax grab will hurt families every time they take their pet in to the veterinarian.

When the HST takes effect on July 1st, Guelph families will pay 8 per cent more for the services and products a vet provides, including regular checkups, shots and grooming. Dalton McGuinty’s HST tax grab will also apply to vet drug and prescription fees.

At every step of the way, the Ontario PC Caucus has stood up and opposed this massive tax grab. Today, Hudak asked Guelph families to participate in the Ontario PC’s HST poll at www.daltonsalestax.com to have their say how which part of Dalton McGuinty’s HST tax grab will hurt them the most. To date, more than 7,000 people have participated in the poll.

Quotes:

“Dalton McGuinty is already taxing the family budget to the limit. Now he’s taxing the family pet, too. With Dalton McGuinty’s HST tax grab Ontario families will be forced to pay more to take their pets to the vet.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“Guelph families are already working hard enough to pay the bills – as Dalton McGuinty’s tax and fee increases, and higher hydro and insurance premiums, have already stretched the family budget to the limit. Forcing families to pay the HST on vet bills will be too heavy a burden to bear.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

Quick Facts:

Some of the other items set to skyrocket in price after the HST kicks in July 1st include:

  • Hydro
  • Home heating fuel
  • Natural gas
  • Gasoline
  • Vitamins
  • Internet service
  • Financial advisory services
  • Mutual fund fees
  • Condo fees
  • Retirement & nursing home costs

Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak Discusses the Economy and Employment Opportunities with Ontario’s Chinese Community

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

News:

Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak met with business and community leaders from Ontario’s Chinese community today to share details of his Newcomers Employment Opportunities Act and to discuss the impact of Dalton McGuinty’s $3 billion HST tax grab.

Hudak’s Act includes practical and affordable measures to help New Canadians find employment and create jobs in Ontario. It would lower the investment threshold for New Canadian investors looking to start businesses outside of the Greater Toronto Area. The bill provides new tax incentives for employers who pay for English and French language training for New Canadian employees and would require every Ontario regulated profession to provide potential immigrants with affordable and comprehensive access to credentialing information.

During his discussions, Hudak also outlined his opposition to the HST, telling community leaders a PC Government would mean lower taxes for families. Hudak encouraged participants to have their voices heard on the impact of the HST, by visiting www.daltonsalestax.com . The poll is also available on the Tim Hudak iPhone application.

Quotes:

“The New Canadians I have met, like those form Ontario’s Chinese community, tell me how eager they are to have their skills and qualifications recognized, so they can help unlock the true potential of our province.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“Dalton McGuinty broke his promise not to raise taxes and today, every Ontario family is forced to pay more and get less. We will replace Dalton McGuinty’s addiction to tax and spend with a government that respects how much Ontario families already pay.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

Quick Facts:

If passed, Tim Hudak’s Newcomers Employment Opportunities Act would do the following:

  • Lowers investment requirements from $3,000,000 to $1,000,000 for immigrant applicants applying for permanent residence status in the investor category if the immigrant investor plans to operate a business outside of the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Provide a new tax credit to eligible employers who arrange for occupation specific English as a second language or French as a second language training for immigrant employees who have been in Canada for less than two years. The tax credit would be equal to 10% of the enrolled employees’ wages.
  • Require regulated professions to make training materials and credentialing information available to prospective immigrants online while empowering the Fairness Commissioner to monitor reasonableness of Ontario professional credentialing processes compared to other jurisdictions.

The HST is the next tax in a long string of taxes introduced by Dalton McGuinty that include: $15 billion in health taxes, higher income taxes, business taxes, hydro taxes, iPod and TV taxes, car taxes, house taxes and tire taxes.

Tim Hudak Calls on Dalton McGuinty to Stop Sending HST Bribe Cheques to Prisoners

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

News:

Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak visited the Newmarket Courthouse today to highlight how Dalton McGuinty’s HST deal keeps getting worse for Ontario families. Ontario PC Caucus research shows that prisoners in Ontario jails will receive HST bribe cheques from Dalton McGuinty of up to $1,000 each.

Sending these cheques to prisoners is just the latest example of how Dalton McGuinty is out-out-touch with Ontario families and how hard they must work to balance the family budget. Dalton McGuinty also handed over $25 million in so-called severance to HST tax collectors who won’t actually lose their jobs. While families struggle to make ends meet, Dalton McGuinty is spending their tax dollars on prisoners and severance packages.

Hudak called on Dalton McGuinty to stop payment on the HST bribe cheques to prisoners and instead give that money to hard working, law abiding citizens.

Quotes:

“Ontario families and seniors are rightly shocked to learn that prisoners will be receiving HST bribe cheques while they’re in jail. I am calling on Dalton McGuinty to stop these cheques immediately.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“Dalton McGuinty is out-of-touch with Ontario families, who will see their HST bribe cheques disappear by increases in the cost of hydro and air conditioning their home. He must stop this and return that money to hard working, law abiding Ontario families and seniors.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

QUICK FACTS:

  • Starting July 1, the HST will increase the tax on a wide range of everyday goods and services, including gasoline, home heating, hydro, internet, hair cuts and even funerals.
  • Inmates serving sentences of 90 days or less are currently eligible to receive Dalton McGuinty’s HST bribe cheques.
  • According to Jay Hope, Deputy Minister of Corrections in the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, “On any given day, the ministry is responsible for approximately 8,800 inmates” (Public Accounts Committee, March 11th, 2009).

Tim Hudak Calls on Dalton McGuinty to Stop Sending HST Bribe Cheques to Prisoners

Monday, June 14th, 2010

News:

Dalton McGuinty’s HST deal keeps getting worse for Ontario families, Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak said today as he called on Dalton McGuinty to stop payment on the HST bribe cheques McGuinty is sending to convicted prisoners.

The revelation that convicted prisoners would receive HST bribe cheques is the latest evidence Dalton McGuinty is out-out-touch with Ontario families.

First, McGuinty shocked seniors and families by handing out $25 million dollars in so-called HST severance to tax collectors who won’t miss a day of work. Then, after months of denial, he came clean and finally admitted that his HST tax grab was not revenue neutral and was going to hurt families and seniors. And then, after encouraging Ontario businesses to lower their prices once the HST takes effect, we learned that the McGuinty Government’s own LCBO monopoly was actually increasing prices.

Quotes:

“What’s truly criminal is how Dalton McGuinty’s HST deal keeps getting worse for Ontario families, who are already working hard enough to earn an honest living and balance their family budgets.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“Dalton McGuinty is out-of-touch with Ontario families. It is Ontario families and seniors, not prisoners, who will pay for the increased cost of heat and hydro at Ontario jails once his HST tax grab takes effect. He should be providing tax relief to families and not convicted prisoners.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

Quick Facts:

  • Starting July 1, the HST will increase the tax on a wide range of everyday goods and services, including gasoline, home heating, hydro, internet, hair cuts and even funerals.

Hudak Discusses Health Care and Job Creation Ideas With Cambridge Seniors and Business Leaders

Friday, June 11th, 2010

News:

Today Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak and Gerry Martiniuk, MPP Cambridge, met with Cambridge seniors and business leaders to discuss the ideas the Ontario PC Caucus is bringing forward to help create local jobs and spend health care dollars where they are needed most.

In addresses to the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce and Cambridge Rotary Club, Hudak outlined the ideas contained in the Ontario PC ‘10 for 2010′ plan, which contains practical and affordable ideas to help small businesses like theirs to create jobs and grow the economy.

Earlier in the day, Hudak attended Martiniuk’s annual Seniors Education Day to speak to local seniors about how Dalton McGuinty is diverting health care dollars away from the frontlines to pay for his bloated Local Health Integration Network bureaucracy. Hudak said a future PC government will focus health care dollars where they are needed most – in frontline health care services.

Quotes:

“A strong economy is the foundation upon which families can build a better future for themselves. Our ‘10 for 2010′ plan outlines practical and affordable ideas to create jobs today.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“Rather than attack government waste, like the $1 billion Liberal eHealth scandal, Dalton McGuinty is attacking frontline health services like those provided by the hard working care givers at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. This out of touch government needs to get its priorities straight or get going.”

– Gerry Martiniuk, MPP Cambridge and Critic for Health Promotion and Seniors’ Secretariat

Quick Facts:

  • It took 23 Ontario premiers 136 years to accumulate Ontario’s first $148 billion in debt. Dalton McGuinty is on course to single handedly double that debt within the next three years.
  • Dalton McGuinty has neglected the challenges seniors face. Last year, Cambridge Memorial Hospital was forced to cut 35 beds and 85 jobs to shave off $11 million from its budget.
  • The wait list for a long term care bed in the Waterloo-Wellington LHIN’s territory (which includes Cambridge) has grown from 1,129 people in January 2007 to 1,522 in January 2010.

Tim Hudak Says HST is a Tax Grab on Summer Sports and Recreation

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

News:

Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak and Ted Chudleigh, MPP Halton, visited Milton Sports Centre today to outline how Dalton McGuinty’s greedy $3 billion HST tax grab will hurt families this summer. Ontario families struggling to pay their bills will soon also have to pay more to enrol their kids in minor league sports like baseball, soccer and swimming.

Starting on Canada Day, recreational facility rental fees, such as those for baseball diamonds, soccer fields, pools and ice rinks, will all increase by 8 per cent. Most minor league associations will have no choice but to pass the increased costs of the HST on to parents.

At every step of the way, the Ontario PC Caucus has stood up and opposed this massive tax grab. Hudak called on Milton families to participate in the Ontario PC’s HST poll at www.daltonsalestax.com and have their say how which part of Dalton McGuinty’s HST tax grab will hurt them the most.

Quotes:

“Dalton McGuinty said it’s the parents’ duty to ‘step up to the plate’ and do their part by paying his new tax on minor league sports and recreation. Only a premier this out of touch, would make it even harder for Ontario children and families to stay fit.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“For some parents, these extra costs can be the difference between whether their child gets in the game or just sits at home.”

– Ted Chudleigh, Ontario PC MPP for Halton

Quick Facts:

  • Dalton McGuinty’s HST tax grab will increase the cost of recreational facility rental fees, such as those for ice rinks, baseball diamonds and soccer fields, by 8 per cent.
  • Milton Sports Centre is warning local families and seniors that the HST will increase costs for drop-in sports like swimming and skating, facility rentals and registered programs, and fitness passes for adults and seniors.
  • The Ontario PC Caucus has launched an online poll where you can vote on what the HST will impact the most in your budget at www.daltonsalestax.com
